Blood Moon is a multiplayer-only total conversion for the award winning first person shooter Half-Life® 2 by Valve®. It features three different fractions:

  • Humans
  • Revenants
  • Werewolves

The aim for every player is to turn every other player into a member of his current team, ie. to turn enemies into renegades. In order to do this the enemy must be unconscious. He will enter that state when his life points reach zero. This game mode is called "Capture The Enemy".

The setting is Eastern Europe in the late 19th century. The maps are all night maps with full moon and at least three different initial spawn areas - one for each team (e.g. Forest, Village, Castle).

Sound and graphics have a dark and creepy theme.

Humans

Once a month, when the moon forms a perfect circle, the humans fear for their lives. It's the night when the revenants leave their hideouts and the werewolves lose control over themselves. For a few hours no soul will come to a rest and sleeping becomes a lethal undertaking.

But they are well prepared. Using revolvers with bullets made from silver, pole spilling devices, clubs, sabres, knives, crucifixes, garlic and holy water those brave fighters try to survive until dawn. Also coffee and alcoholic fluids become very important to them. They help them to keep their eyes open and fight tougher.

Weapons and open eyes are not enough, though. Torches and lanterns must be used to unveil the horror in the shadows.

Reinforcements can be gained by killing any revenant or werewolf. The greater the success of the human team will be the more volunteers will be confident enough to travel to the battlegrounds and join the fight. But those new ones will be tired from their long journey to the battlefield and appear somewhere at the edge of the map.

Revenants

Revenants do not live nor are they dead. Cold blood flows through their veins when they wander on earth at night. They feel grudge against every living creature and try to put an end to their livelihood.

Werewolves

Werewolves are creatures stuck between humans and wolves. They are very fast and can climb structures that are impossible to climb for humans. Their body is their most dangerous weapon. Big claws and a jaw full of long, razor-sharp teeth which can dissect everything that comes in between.

Huntsmen

These brave adventurers are very talented fighters and can move quickly even through dense copse. As they depend on themselves oftentimes when they travel through wide wilderness they are endued with great knowledge about how to treat injuries.

Some of them travel long distances seeking adventures and new defiances. Others had to watch their families being killed by those monsters and now return to take revenge. Most of them however are townsmen, farmers or gypsies who have learned to master all kind of weaponry while defending their homes and their lives.

Dark Templars

They are the fighting elite of the Knights Templar descendants. Only state of the art technology is part of their equipment. A dark templar wears armor on the head and chest protecting vital areas, the rest of the body has leather armor to retain mobility. The neck is completely covered as well to be protected from vampires.

Many people think that the Knights Templar dissolved. The truth is that some splinter groups went into the underground and survived until today. In the last century they regained their old strength and even got more influential than ever before. One of them, the Dark Templars, specialized in the combat against the creatures of the night and became the most powerful group because the Vatican needed their help.

Vampires

The vampires are able to alter their manifestation. They can either be human like creatures with pale skin and pointy canines that can hover silently over the ground and cloak themselves or they can fly swiftly through the night as small bats.

A vampire bat can't attack but this form is perfect to escape through small gaps and for travelling long distances. The transformation into a humanoid vampire only takes some seconds.

As humanoids they have a quite good, green shaded night vision. While hovering over the ground they produce absolutely no noise. Even the werewolves with their excellent sense of hearing can't detect them. In this form they can use human weapons and are able to bite unconscious or lethal wounded enemies to transform them into zombies.

It is very hard to kill a vampire. Indeed there are only two ways to do it. Chop off his head or drive a pole right through his heart. Direct sunlight also kills them instantly, but as it is night this doesn't matter. If it's not possible to kill them you might want to keep them at a distance with garlic, crucifixes or holy water.

Zombies

Defenseless humans and werewolves slowly turn into zombies once they have been bitten by a vampire.

Zombies are slow and don't know how to handle human equipment like revolvers. They use brute force to kill their enemies. They hit their victims with their fists and try to choke them if they can get close enough. Another possibility for zombies to hurt their enemies is to throw heavy objects at them. Durability is their strength. Revolvers and sharp weapons do little damage to them. However they can be killed with clubs quite easily.

After some time every zombie turns into a vampire. They can drink some blood of another vampire to speed up the process.

Ghouls

These invidious creatures love to eat the dead and will appear as soon as they smell decay scent. When they move fast it is very hard to hit them.

Ghouls wear sharp spines all over their body. They can rip them off to use them like knives or even throw them. Due to some unholy power these spines can grow again within seconds, ready to be ripped off again. In comparison to their rather small body size their claws are big and pose a serious threat. As ghouls are used to the usage of sharp weapons they will pick up human knives and sabres.

Unlike zombies, who just appear as near as possible to the bitten enemy, ghouls spawn at a random spot within the initial spawn area of the revenant team.

Werewolves

Werewolves are able to change between two states. The one described in the paragraph above allows them to use human weapons with low precision. In the other state they become real wolves. This means they are even faster, but they also lose the ability to climb and use human weapons. However all their injuries are self-healing within short time while they are in this state and only then they can bite enemies and turn them into renegades.

Changing from one state to the other causes pain and is very exhausting. During the metamorphosis a werewolf can't move and defend himself. This is similar to the process when a bitten human turns into a werewolf. It starts right after the human has been bitten. It can be accelerated by biting him repeatedly.

» Do werewolves carry weapons? «

Yes, werewolves can use human weapons with low precision. The most powerfull weapons of werewolves however are their claws and teeth. Think of it like the aliens in Natural Selection (Half-Life Mod).

» Will there be NPCs? «

No, every creature you will see will be controlled by a player.

» How big will the levels be? «

The levels will be about as big as the largest Counter-Strike maps. (~ 0.25km²)
